Venini, mouth blown art glass
A
symbol of creative spirit and excellence in the Italian art of glassmaking
is a cosmopolitan reality that fuses tradition and innovation. Contrasting
features skillfully combined to achieve colorful works of art make
Venini a well-known name throughout the world. In 1920, Paolo Venini,
a Milanese attorney, returned to his family roots of glass making,
but introduced a revolutionary twist to the industry by breaking away
from traditional design and embracing the vision of renowned avant-garde
artists with the help of the most skilled glass blowers on the island
of Murano. Today, Venini art glass is highly prized and collected.
It also is included in permanent exhibits of the Metropolitan Museum
of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum,
and Musee des Arts Decoratifs, to name only a few.
